You know, if I had a nickel for every time I said “happy new year Terrarians!”, I would end up with two nickels, which in this economy can’t buy me anything.
Anyway, happy new year Terrarians!
2022 has been a good, bad, and ugly year for us at Penguin Games, but we did get some good memes out of it. We have done a lot this year! From updates to new features to wrestling with Re-Logic’s late April Fools prank of releasing 10 hotfixes, we at Penguin Games have gotten a lot accomplished. So why not just hop to it?
Server Recap
Looking back to 2022, Penguin Games has worked on a lot this year. From expansions to new features to endless bug fixes, every month was something new to tackle. But while sharing everything we did this year would sound nice, it’d be quicker to give the highlights.
That being said, if you want to see everything we showed for this year, we post all updates to our Discord server.
Mobile users rejoice! CCTG, Survival, and PvP have arrived!

This is NOT doctored footage (at least, we think). Players are now able to play Classic Capture the Gem, Survival, and Players vs. Players ON THE GO!
When 1.4.3 launched on all platforms – finally reaching PC’s latest version – opportunity arose. Previously, games that used the latest features from Terraria were locked from mobile, due to concerns of breaking the game greatly with inconsistencies. But now, that is no longer the case – mobile can finally play ALL games Penguin Games has to offer!
The era of parity has begun.
Creating new types of fun - Host Lobby takes the stage!

Our thoughts? Make it yourself.
…with the new game mode: Host Lobby!
In short, Host Lobby is more so a creation hub rather than a dedicated game; players unleash their creativity to build amazing and unique micro games.
Since its launch in February, countless new ideas have been shown off from players to the players. From recreating other games into Terraria form to reenacting certain TV shows of the cephalopod type, any time you join the Host Lobby, there is bound to be something new to check out!
Any player can join in for host shenanigans when announced by our staff team!
Survival just got better - Private Survivals have launched!
If you are an active user on Penguin Games, you may already know of our public survival games. These are special hosts by our staff, in which players go through an entire vanilla playthrough, working together to take down bosses and thrive. Of course, these can come at a twist, ranging from simple item bans to chaotic block swapping per second.
As a sort-of last surprise for 2022, we have given all of our patrons the ability to host their very own Survival games – straight from Penguin Games itself! Why bother learning how to port forward or paying a premium from other hosts, when you can just run a command and get a server going in less than a minute?
As more players start playing around and begin their own survival games, we’re excited to see how everyone will play differently!
Players interested in starting up their own survival game or wondering what other benefits come from being a patron can find everything on our Patreon.
Introducing the hardest map ever in Terraria...
Players can brave through this challenge in Parkour. Will you survive or will you become the next games journalist?
Maps, expansions, and updates galore!

2022 saw a healthy release of new maps, expansions, and general updates. Notably, a majority of our games received some love in updates. So whether if you are a regular in Capture the Gem, Players vs. Environment, Parkour, Class Wars, Tank Wars, or something else entirely, there was always something new to check out.
An epic shout out to our server builders, staff team, and those with Mapedit access. They build what you stand on, so show some respect!
Those interested in contributing to the server should join our Discord server! We’re always looking for new talent.
We deleted the server...

At least we had a backup… from 2015…

Spreading propaganda - the website launches!
If you are reading this, you have just come across this rare yet powerful software technology: a website (Web sight? Spider sense?).
Pretty cool right? Really fire you could say?
Jokes aside, one of our 2022 goals was to get a website up and running, and while this form is not perfect, the website lives! So cross that off the TODO card on Trello.
Currently, there is not a whole lot to explore on that website… but going into 2023, expanding the website will be a definite priority! However, for the time being, enjoy reading through our privacy policy in style!
And so, so, SO MUCH MORE!
Trying to fit everything in this blog post would be such a heavy burden for us; to list everything would be IMPOSSIBLE!
The next best thing then would be joining the server to find out all the things we are cooking. If you need a refresher, here is the server IP and port!

Community Recap
Akin to 2021, 2022 also saw growth in the community side of Penguin Games! Here are the highlights.
Event Highlights!
Many, many, MANY events were held this year, ranging from tournaments, to building competitions, to whatever madness we came up with. Here are the highlights from some events!

Capitalism takes over Penguin Games - February Money Event

During Februrary, we pulled off a new foreign concept: Capitalism. In short, if our players reached a certain threshold of Penguin Points, by the end of the month that amount would be converted to real life money!
What ensued was the scramble for cash, bloodshed, and tears as the effects of capitalism began to tear the server apart. Rest assured, by March, we patched out capitalism, and honored the victors with their hard-earned Penguin Points scented cash.
Did this boost our player count? Not necessarily. Was it fun? Yes! We paired a lot of updates with this event, so every day had something new to do!
Penguin Games lands a spot on r/place

We rallied up the Penguin Games community to leave our mark on r/place, and can you believe it? We did it Reddit.
No Reddit Gold was given out to the contributors.
Penguin Games vs. Redigit

Boring Statistics 2: Electric Boogaloo
In this year, we saw…
- 206 server announcements!
- 257 community announcements!
- Over 1500 hosts!
- A lot of bans, as per usual.
- Lots of grass touching from server outages…
Yearly Thanks + The Future
To everyone: whether you are an active user or just someone who briefly visits from time-to-time, thank you for playing on our server.
We value each member that joins the server, regardless of how long they intend on staying, and work extremely hard behind-the-scenes to build a cool server.
Our number one goal every year is to ensure that you – the player – is having fun. We are not making a server for money nor for internet points (though both are appreciated…). We are making a server for you guys.
We are aware of the general decline in players from this year – we get it. A 24/7 Terraria server is not exactly the most popular thing in the world (compared to a certain 3d block game), and while Terraria is one of the most popular games in the world, the love for multiplayer is not the same love people have for something like Modded Terraria. From bug upon bug to frustrating source code jargon, running a Terraria server is an absolute mess.
Is this terrible? No, we still have active players and while our player count fluctuates, we still have a consistent following. But do we want something more? Of course we do.
But how can you help?
For one, playing on our server is already helping us. After all, more players playing equals more players playing. But for those who want to show more support can vote for our server on terraria-servers.com. This is the hotspot for all Terraria servers, and by voting for our server, you are helping spread the word for free.
If you are a true devotee for the Penguin Games propaganda and willing to spend money on us, consider looking at our Patreon. We recently reduced our pricing alongside our Private Survivals launch, so you can now pledge as low as $3 USD. We are not hurting financially, but throwing us a few whatever-in-your-currency goes a long way for the server.
Finally, getting involved with Penguin Games help us a lot. Whether if you want to moderate, help with game changes, build, develop for the server, we are always looking for people. Everyone behind Penguin Games is a volunteer, and give up a little of their free time to expand the server. You can find us chatting a lot on our Discord server and Twitter.
Again, thank you to everyone who plays on Penguin Games!
