Today we are extremely excited to reveal the new documentation for Mapedit, as well as what the future holds! But first, a trip down memory lane.
Before: The Good, the Bad, and the Super Ugly

When Mapedit launched a year and more ago (Can you believe it?! Time flies by so fast…), the Mapmaking Guide launched as well. This amalgamation of a Google Document stored all vital information on how to join Mapedit, edit Mapedit, and love Mapedit. And it worked… for the timebeing.
Back then, not all games were supported for Mapedit, as it was part of the ongoing quest to port everything to clean C# code (Well, we wanted to be cleaner than Terraria’s source code…). That meant scrolling around to get quick bits was easy as getting away with espionage.
Naturally though, as Mapedit began to support more games, and games themselves got bigger, this single document began to stretch itself paper thin. Words began to blur and reading became harder. It also did not help that everything was ugly and long.
So what did we change?
After: The Good, the Good, and the Super Good

Night and day difference, huh?
Introducing the NEW Mapedit documentation! Gone are the days of all-information-in-one-place and now are the days of splitting up everything into equally important pages. Reading is still the same – sometimes a burden – but now text and formatting should be a bit easier on the eyes (You may still need to reread once, twice, or a million).
Overall though, there is significant improvement on our efforts to document everything you need to know about getting started with Mapedit, as well as add new content not seen or mentioned in the original document. These changes no doubt will improve the quality of life for our Mapedit users.
What is Next?
If you poke around the Mapedit docs, you may find yourself at the center of another upcoming project: support pages!
As Penguin Games evolve, and more features get added, the time to store vital bits of information on very obscure areas has ended. Now is the time to take everything and compile it all into one gigantic resource. Expect more articles to come out during this year and beyond, with them bound to give helpful support on any questions you have.
As for the Mapedit docs, we have some more plans into making it the ultimate Mapedit support space, so stay tuned for guides on building good maps, tips and tricks, and more on the horizon!
As always, stay tuned for more details! The future is exciting…
