Capture the Gem League 2 Signups CLOSED! What’s Next?

Five years ago, the first Capture the Gem League commenced! Battles were fought, tears were made, and only one team became the victor amongst the bloodshed.

Now, after preparations among preparations, the second Capture the Gem League is almost ready to begin! In fact, signups for Capture the Gem League 2 are CLOSED. So with that out of the way, what’s next, when’s next, and why’s next for this ultimate tournament?

Who signed up?

Good question.

In total, Capture the Gem League 2 will have a whopping 12 teams (About 96 players max!) competing for the grand prize and fame! Here are the contestants:

These are some big prizes for big stakes, so get ready to duke it out on the battlefield!

Enough with the chitchat, when is this starting?!

Good question.

Officially, we intend on starting Capture the Gem League 2 by 7 July 2023 (so, a week from now). We’ll be publishing the schedules later this weekend, allowing ample time to train and raise concerns over the times. The real challenge in all this is figuring out the best way to accommodate for timezones, as we’ll have players from across the globe duking it out!

We intend on starting and finishing Capture the Gem League 2 this July, which shouldn’t be too hard… (right?).

Rest assured, if you want to hear the latest updates, it’s greatly recommended to join our Discord server: discord.gg/penguingames.

How will the matches be ran?

Good que-

Matches in Capture the Gem League 2 are a best-of-five, meaning that one team must win three rounds in general to win the match overall. If you think this makes the game more relaxed, you’re wrong – anything can happen in a match!

And remember, if your team loses, that doesn’t mean you’re done with the tournament! We have a loser’s bracket, and I mean, anything could happen. Perhaps you’ll make the greatest comeback known in Terraria history?

As for map order, we’re keeping it simple:

  1. Coinflip between “Kraken” or “Triangles” (Captains from each team bet on heads or tails, winner gets to pick map)
  2. Any of the following maps. Decided randomly.
    1. Cranes
    2. SteppingStones
    3. Stalactite
  3. Excluding the map that was played in the last round, any of the following maps. Decided randomly.
    1. Cranes
    2. SteppingStones
    3. Stalactite
  4. Excluding the maps that were played in the last two rounds, any of the following maps. Decided randomly.
    1. Cranes
    2. SteppingStones
    3. Stalactite
  5. Whichever map wasn’t chosen in the Round 1 Coinflip.

Of course, a big concern with these matches is the possibility for a stalemate. In that case, we’ll handle it appropriately, whether if that’s more matches to settle the tie, investigation if there is malicious intents, or the funniest solution: a coin flip.

And remember: There’s a losers bracket! So even if you manage to lose match one, you still have the chance to make the greatest comeback known in Penguin Games history.

Where can I watch Capture the Gem League 2?

We will be streaming Capture the Gem League 2 on the official Penguin Games Twitch account. So for the spectators: Join the fun, watch the mayhem, and try to tolerate our intense commentary.

Get hyped!

It’s crazy to think that after five years, Capture the Gem League 2 is finally here! We’ve had a bunch of bumps along the road, but now we’re nearing the end… but not yet!

We still have a lot of the agenda, for Capture the Gem League 2 and beyond. If this event goes smoothly (who knows, maybe it will?), this sets the framework and idea of what we need to do exactly to make events like these… well, great!

And, as we said before, we want to say thanks for sticking around. Whether if you’re a CtGL veteran, an old regular, or a casual newbie, thank you for sticking around till Capture the Gem League 2! Your support means a lot.

That’s all from Penguin Games for now, but get ready! Capture the Gem League 2… is coming…
