“A Races update in 2024?! Blasphemy!” That is what you are all right now. If anyone bet on a Races update coming this year, you’ve now won that bet! Today we are here to bring you the first races update in a long time.

The update isn’t too major, but that does not mean it is not a step in the right direction! This races update brings some cleanup to the public map rotation, some adjustments to some maps & a few quality of life additions!

Map Removals & Adjustments

As mentioned prior, we decided to say goodbye to some of the maps from the public pool. There are various reasons behind these maps being removed. Some were too punishing for falling, too long, a little bland or just not as good quality wise.

Furthermore, we made some small tweaks to improve a handful of maps that weren’t as far behind. These mostly consist of small gameplay adjustments or visibility changes.

We strive to ensure more fun matches while playing races so we cleaned up the pool a little, we will continue making some adjustments in the future for even more of the maps. But you can still set all of the maps removed via /nextmap (/nm) in your own private lobbies! However, these maps are always up to return in the future if we deem them fit for the gamemode again with some adjustments!

Changelog

The following maps have been removed from public pool. However, these maps can still be set via /nextmap in a private lobby! Additionally, there is also a possibility of their return someday.

  • Tree Race
  • Falls
  • Basalisk 1
  • Hell Park
  • Jungle Race
  • Acceleration Station
  • Penguin Games World Tour

Furthermore, following maps have received small adjustments, the changes are the following.

  • Nyoom Race – Re-added to the pool with some adjustments.
  • Cave Race – Routing visibility & survivability Increased. Basically, this means fall damage & some lava pits have been removed as well as an increase to player health.
  • Mario Race – Removed Ice & Sky worlds, smoothed transition from Cliffs to Bowser’s.
  • Archeological Desert Mine – Routing visibility & gameplay tweaks.
  • Music – Removed a few ropes.
  • Aqua – Nerfed a few jumps.
  • Angel – Brightness lowered.

Finally, all maps now have a checkered flag or another win region indicator. This should show exactly where the winners are determined!

Finally, the sidebar has received some changes!

  • It now shows the current time in the race, formerly it only showed how much time remained.
  • Also, some small rewording has been done.

These changes will range from quality of life additions in a post like this one or another larger update to the maps & rotation such as this one. Only time will tell, till then we hope you are going to enjoy this set of changes!
