Have you ever felt like you’ve been forgotten? Well don’t worry about that now. Because that isn’t the case for King of the Hill which has returned to the server!

This post will go over core details about the gamemode’s reintroduction.

Why now?

Over the past few years, like everyone, we’ve been waiting for Terraria 1.4.5. During this time, we continued to chip at our giant suggestion backlog, which we have now cleaned most of it!

Additionally, we’ve also had King of the Hill in our minds for those years as well. Given we can now start to really focus on new content, we decided it’s a perfect time for KOTH’s return.

What is the current state of the gamemode?

As this post is titled, this is a direct port of the old Editor version of King of the Hill but with Mapedit integration built in!

Which means as of now there are no balance changes or major reworks to the game aside from whatever Terraria itself has changed over the past few years. You could in theory say, “you’re as beautiful as the day I lost you”, but it will most definitely be unbalanced as well as with bugs. Such as Lich’s ability currently being broken.

However, not too long from this release we’ll do some balance changes to get stuff into a solid spot for what’s next. In the meantime, if you’d like to read a little bit about the Editor as to what it is, check out this recap from 2023.

What is next for the gamemode?

This is the most important question to ask with King of the Hill’s reintroduction. While we don’t have anything concrete yet, we hope to bring a future revamp with the following in the future:

  • New classes, which likely will outright replace or alter most of the existing ones.
  • New maps, which will be in tune with new classes designed as well as to add more variable gameplay.
  • General gamemode. maintenance, as this is part of why the gamemode was removed in the first place.
  • Hopefully less bugs
  • And more! But we don’t quite know what yet, these are just some rough thoughts so far.

We hope you enjoy this re-release of King of the Hill, & stay tuned for what’s next!
